Divergent by Veronica Roth || Book Review

Hi guys! If you know me at all (which some of you may not), you know that I like things to be dramatic. Not like school drama and gossip, but intense action and emotions. Divergent did that for me.

Usually what happens when I read a book is that I am all hyped up about it for about a week and then I get over it and am like it was a good book, but whatever. The only time I get passionate about the book is when I’m talking about the characters, plot, etc. with my friends. A great example is the Percy Jackson series. I loved it, but in my day to day life I don’t really care about it.

The point of this all is that Divergent had so much interesting and enthralling action that I was hooked.

Summary

Chicago is divided into factions to create the most order and peace. There are five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful) Candor (the honest) Erudite (the intelligent) and Dauntless (the brave).

When you get old enough, you must decide what faction you will go to. Tris chooses Dauntless, though her family are Abnegation. While there, she must face her fears and hide her true identity while trying to stop an upcoming civil war and eventually discover who she really is.

Characters

I absolutely love Tris and Four, as well as their friends. I also loved Four’s parental drama. It added another layer of intrigue. The characters in this book were crafted really well, and it is easy to fall in love with them, making it hard to lose them.

Plot

The plot kept me hooked, and heartbroken at times. It is a really sad book, as many family members and friends die, and they must figure out how to deal with the loss (although Divergent isn’t as sad as Insurgent or Allegiant in my opinion). This adds to a human aspect of the book and makes it feel more real.

Rating

All in all, my rating is five stars. I really enjoyed this book (and the rest of the series) and encourage anyone and everyone (in the appropriate age range) to read it.

Have you read this book before? What did you think about it? Let me know in the comments!

Also, I will be doing a movie review soon as well. Bonus points if you get the featured image.
