Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer & an announcement

Hi guys! I finished Letters to the Lost a week ago and was blown away. Half of the time I was screaming at a certain character, but let’s get into it.

Before I start, I just wanted to let you know that I’m going to be going on a hiatus for a few weeks. I have some school stuff that I need to wrap up before I fully get into summer mode. I really enjoy blogging, so I’ll be back soon.

Summary

Juliet Young is grieving over her mother, who was a photojournalist who was killed in a hit and run car accident. She writes letters to her twice a week and leaves them on her grave. One day, someone responds. Little does she know that he’s the local delinquent, Declan whom everyone fears, but he’s grieving too. As they write back and forth, they help each other heal, not knowing who each other are.

“We’re all united by grief, and somehow divided by the same thing.”

When their secret identities and real lives get closer to colliding, they discover truths that might tear them apart.

Characters

To be honest, Declan was my favorite character. He’s really angsty, but Juliet sometimes got on my nerves. She couldn’t figure out who Declan was even though the clues were there. Though I’m glad she didn’t find out that he was the one she was writing to until the end, it still slightly frustrated me at times.

Overall, the characters were built really well, though. They were really relatable and their feelings were really understandable.

Plot

While the plot may not seem that interesting, the way that she wrote it enhanced it really well. The letters, emails, and commentary were really interesting.

Rating

I really enjoyed this book. I read it in a heartbeat and it was emotional in a heartfelt way.

Have you read Letters to the Lost? Did you enjoy it? Let me know in the comments.
