Quarter three review

Hi guys! Here’s my quarter three review for July, August and September. I have so many fallish posts planned, but I decided to do this first. You can check out my quarter one review here and my quarter two review here.

Books I’ve Read

I’ve topped my 115+ book goal! I don’t know if that means I read too many books, as it’s only October, but I’m still excited.

July

Red Hood by Elana K. Arnold

Rating: ★ || Genre: Retelling || Age group: YA

I honestly don’t know why I read it.

Uprising by Margaret Peterson Haddix

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Historical Fiction || Age group: Middle grade

If I had read it when I was ten, I might have liked it more.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Rating: ★★★.5 || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

I don’t really know what I think about this one. It had a plot, but then didn’t.

The Sky Above Us by Natalie Lund

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Mystery/Thriller || Age group: YA
It was… interesting. There was a very unexpected plot twist, which I still don’t know if I liked. It seemed more like a realistic fiction than a mystery/thriller, though.

The Ones We’re Meant to Find by Joan He

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

Absolutely loved this book. You can check out my review here.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Classic Sci-fi/Dystopian || Age group: Adult

I liked this book. It was really thought provoking. Also, when I say that the age group is “adult” I don’t mean that it’s inappropriate, I just mean that that’s the general age group that reads it, though I know many who read it in high school.

To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Classic Historical Fiction || Age group: Adult

It was really good and made me think about a lot of things.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Retelling || Age group: YA

This book was everything I expected it to be and more. I can’t wait to read the sequel.

Sisters of Sword and Song by Rebecca Ross

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

I liked it more than I thought I would.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Classic || Age group: Adult

I didn’t find it that interesting (sorry mom). Maybe I’ll like it better if I read it in a few years.

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

The Library of Lost Things by Laura Taylor Namey

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

So cute!

Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Retelling || Age group: YA

Another great book by Marissa Meyer

I read thirteen pretty good books in July, and some classics. I’m pretty happy about what I read this month.

August

Defy the Stars by Claudia Grey

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

You can read my review here.

Dig by A. S. King

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: I don’t know || Age group: YA

This book made me think in an interesting way, and I like books that do that.

Honor Among Thieves by Ann Aguire and Rachel Caine

Rating: ★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

I don’t like sci-fi with aliens that much, so I don’t know what I was thinking.

Wildcard by Marie Lu

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

I loved this duology so much. You can check out my review of it’s predecessor, Warcross here.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

Rating: ★★★.5 || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

Heartbreakingly beautiful.

The Queen’s Assassin by Melissa De La Cruz

Rating: ★★ || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee [reread]

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Historical Fiction || Age group: YA

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Mystery/Thriller || Age group: YA

Our Wayward Fate by Gloria Chao

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

When We Collided by Emery Lord

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

Wild Blue Wonder by Carlie Sorosiak

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

The Girl With the Wrong Name by Barnabas Miller

Rating: ★★ || Genre: Mystery/Thriller || Age group: YA

The Rose and the Dagger by Renee Ahdieh

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

Definitely not as good as The Wrath and the Dawn, but it was okay.

Defy the Fates by Claudia Grey

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

If I Stay by Gayle Foreman

Rating: ★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

In Another Time by Caroline Leech [reread]

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Historical Fiction || Age group: YA

Renegades by Marissa Meyer [reread]

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Fantasy/Sci-fi || Age group: YA

I read nineteen books in August, and most of them were pretty good.

September

Supernova by Marissa Meyer [reread]

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Fantasy/Sci-fi || Age group: YA

Another great one by A. S. King.

Half Upon a Time by James Riley [reread]

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: Middle grade

Shadows of Sherwood by Kekla Magoon [reread]

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Retelling || Age group: Middle grade

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Rating: ★★★.5 || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly by Jamie Pacton

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: I don’t know || Age group: YA

Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

I loved this one! Plus, it was about marine biology.

100 Days of Sunlight by Abbie Eamons

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Romance || Age group: YA

Breathing Underwater by Sarah Allen

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: Middle grade

This book was surprisingly honest and somber for a middle grade, and I really enjoyed it.

Every Last Word by Tamara Ireland Stone

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Realistic Fiction || Age group: YA

A certain part of it was slightly weird, but it was an enjoyable book overall.

A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer

Rating: ★★★ || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

It features Grey, my favorite character in the last book, so I liked it more than I thought I would.

Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price

Rating: ★★★★.5 || Genre: Retelling || Age group: YA

This book was hilarious! I was a bit wary as it was a retelling of Pride and Prejudice, but it was really good.

These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Fantasy || Age group: YA

It ended in a cliff hanger, so I can’t wait for the sequel (I’ll be waiting for a while).

They Called Us Enemy by George Takei

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Graphic Novel || Age group: Adult

We Are Not Free by Traci Chee

Rating: ★★★★★ || Genre: Historical Fiction || Age group: YA

The Sound of Stars by Alechia Dow

Rating: ★★★★ || Genre: Sci-fi || Age group: YA

I’m still not sure how I feel about this one. It was… interesting. It had an alien-human interaction that I’ve never seen before.

I read twenty books in September, which makes me wonder how I was reading so much when it was the first month of school.
