Books featuring huskies

Hi guys! Thankfully I was able to find more books on huskies. If you want to find out more about the scientific side of huskies, check out my blog post on All Creatures Great and Small here.

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

The Call of the Wild is a classic adventure novel. It starts off with Buck, a domesticated dog who is sold to be a sled dog in Alaska. He must figure out how to survive in the wild, where tooth and claw is the only law. If you don’t like violence though, this book is not for you. There are many fights. Wild Huskies are featured in this book as being “enemies” of the sled dogs. There is also a movie that just came out last year.

White Fang is also a good book that features wolf/husky mix if you are looking for another Jack London read after The Call of the Wild .

Ice Dogs by Terry Lynn Johnson

Ice Dogs is about a teenaged dogsled racer named Victoria who gets lost in the woods and must survive the freezing temperatures and get back home.

Dog Driven by Terry Lynn Johnson

Dog Driven is about McKenna Barney, a girl who is slowly losing her eyesight, isolating herself in the Canadian wilderness. Her sister convinces her to join a sled race, a race she doesn’t even know she can see to run. She must fight to survive the wilderness, overcoming ice shifts, wolves, and sudden storms.

Dogteam by Gary Paulsen

Dogteam is an illustrated picture book that is written in poem. As a team of dogs pull the sled, the narrator shows the beauty of nature. It is a great book for all ages.

If you’re looking for a movie, Snow Dogs is great, funny adventure about a man from the city dog sledding.
